Traditional Licensure Pathways
This pathway is for individuals who want to complete a traditional teacher preparation program at a college or university and earn your teaching license. Once licensed, you are eligible for employment in Maryland schools. If you already have an undergraduate degree, you can earn a teaching license by completing a master's degree or post-baccalaureate certificate program that leads to licensure. These teacher preparation programs are considered traditional routes to teacher education and can be part-time or full-time. They are available all over the state, so you can find one that fits your schedule and your needs.
Conditional Teacher Pathway
This pathway is for individuals with a bachelor’s degree (in any subject). You may apply for employment as a teacher in a county school district (also known as a local education agency), State-operated school, or nonpublic special education program if there is a teaching assignment that cannot be filled by a licensed educator.
If hired, you are issued a Conditional License and must complete a pathway to licensure prior to the expiration of the Conditional License (Maximum of 5 years for all areas except special education; 3 years for special education).
There are several alternative and resident teacher training programs available throughout Maryland. In this alternative route to licensure, resident teachers can be in front of a classroom earning a teacher’s salary in just a few months.
Teach. Inspire. Transform.
With ongoing professional development opportunities, comprehensive benefits, and a competitive salary, teaching provides a bright future no matter where you are in your professional journey.
In addition to teaching, there are a wide range of operational positions in areas like finance, human resources, safety and security, food services, transportation, and facilities management. Reach out to
